Len nefguda Elamel　(アラビア語で「決してあきらめない」訳)

　

　アルジェリア南西ティンドゥフにある、西サハラ難民キャンプにて国際人権芸術活動アートレジデンス、ARTifaritiに参加。世界各国からのアーティスト６人の一人に選出された。人と人、社会との『つながり』をテーマに、『顔』を題材とした、戦争で行方不明となった西サハラ人々の壁画を作成。行方不明の人々との再会の願いを込めて、家族の手で『瞳を点じる』という共同作業制作を企画、展開しました。　

　1975年、モロッコによる西サハラ軍事占領以来、多くの西サハラの人々（サハラウィ）が紛争、弾圧、妨害により行方不明になっています。その人々が生きているのか、死んでいるのかわからない今なお、難民キャンプに逃れた家族は、「必ず再会して、共に故郷へ帰ろう」と言葉にするのです。

　モロッコ制圧により行方不明になったサハラウイの家族の元を訪れ、その人達の当時の状況、人柄、顔の特徴などを聞きながら、行方不明者のポートレイトを作成。その後、行方不明者、その家族を、サハラ国旗に見立てて、Afrapradesa (戦争資料館) にて、壁画を完成しました。

　日本では、 仏像制作後、目をいれる『開眼』の儀式を行うことで生命が宿ると信じられていました。この企画は私の仏像模写や、修復の経験から日本と異文化の精神の融合を探求、実施したものです。この活動は西サハラの状況を力強く鮮明に印象付け、観る人々の記憶に残ることで、次の人へと伝えることができる伝達手段となりました。また、その壁画は「けしてあきらめないシンボルとなった」と評価されました。それは『つながり』を芸術表現から強く発信することができると確信した成果でした。　

"Len nefguda Elamel" (Never loose hope) 。一人の女性がそう言いました。それは彼女の母がいつも言う言葉「私たちはけしてあきらめない」と。

西サハラ問題 

 

アフリカ北西部、いわゆるマグレブ地域に位置する旧スペイン植民地、西サハラ。地図で見るとグレーの色に塗られています。１９７５年以来モロッコに軍事占領され、国連やアフリカ統一機構（現アフリカ連合）による住民投票を通じた紛争解決努力も妨害され続けています。全長約２０００キロに及ぶ軍事的分離壁「砂の壁」に国土を分断され、その周辺は地雷が引き詰められけして入ることができません。１８万人のサハラウイ難民たちは、祖国解放を夢見てたゆみない国づくりの努力を続け、被占領地域では非暴力抵抗闘争が続いています 。西サハラの人々はアルジェリアの西南のサハラ砂漠地帯に逃れ、今なお西サハラ難民キャンプにて祖国解放のため日々戦い続けています。貧困により様々な問題が山積みなアフリカ最後の植民地、それが西サハラです。

スペイン主催アートレジデンス、国際人権芸術活動「ARTifariti」。「西サハラ独立」をアートで訴えるという概念のもと、アルジェリアにある西サハラ難民キャンプにて毎年、開催される。

Len nefguda elamel (Never loose hope)

 

         Sahrawi people, first they gave me this chance to be in their homes. Second, they trust my painting to show the family members they lost.

My mural is showing missing people with their families. I painted this mural, to make the connection between those who have disappeared and the wall that has brought their suffering. So when I came to Afrapradesa (the memorial building in Western Sahara Territories refugee camp in Algeria), I wanted to paint disappeared people with family there. I visited 9 missing people's families. Before I thought they are so suffering and heart- broken. But then I learned they have strong mind, making future, never lose hope.

         When the portraits were nearly complete, I worked with their families to draw in their eyes. In Japan a ritual believed to invest the image with sacred spirit when a ceremony in which a statue is given eyes. The most important part is the eyes. The eyes, when drawn or painted by a loved one, give the departed the ability to see their way toward the future, to find their way forward. Nuh Abidin, she is Abidin Bu's dauhter. He was missing person. Before finished my mural, she and Afrabradesa drew in missing person and families eyes. So that they can have a remembrance of their lost one while guiding them forward I took copies of these images to recreate as a mural of the "Sahrawi never lose hope mind". The faces on the wall will remind us of the Sahrawi situation, while their eyes guide them to a better future.
