BARAKA from a westely wind　西風からの幸運　

　西サハラ難民キャンプで行われた国際人権芸術活動、ARTifaritiより招待される。私の企画は、人と人、社会とのつながりを基軸に 砂漠に多く捨てられている自然再生することのないペットボトルから風鈴を作り、鈴、短冊をつけて、日本画などで養った日本の伝統精神を融合させた作品を展開しました。

　難民キャンプにいる西サハラの人々（サハラウィ）は皆、西のほうに寝室を構える。大西洋から故郷（西サハラ）を通って、やってくる風は幸運をもたすと言う サハラウィ。その風を感じながら、いつの日か故郷へ戻れることを信じ、眠りにつくのである。 

　日本では音を神聖な物とし、時に魔物を追い払って己の生命を守る楯と信じられている。風鈴は、日本の夏の風物詩の一つです。蒸し暑い夏が来ると風鈴を軒先に吊り下げ、風に揺れる音を聞いて涼を感じ、楽しむ。釣り鐘の舌に吊るされた短冊が風に揺れ、強い風が吹くとカランカランというやや鈍い音がする。強い風は流行病や悪い神をも運んでくると考えられていたことから、邪気除けの意味でつけられており、この音が聞こえる範囲は聖域であるので災いが起こらないといわれている。 

　風、音、願（希望）の概念から、サハラウィの邪を追い払い、幸運、西サハラ独立が訪れるように願いを込め、人々と風鈴を作る企画を行いました。2012年は、西サハラの人々が難民キャンプに逃れて37年目。37か所の様々な場所(病院、学校、お店、民家、タクシーなど)を訪れ、サハラウィの願いを短冊へ書いてもらいました。その希望が風に吹かれ、音と共にやってくる。幸せになれますようにと、心を込めて吊るしていきました。この活動の噂を聞きつけた人達が、ぜひ我が家にも付けて欲しいと私の元を訪れたのです。中には盗って行ってしまう人もいましたが、これこそ人と人とのつながりなのだと実感しました。

　　Every Saharawi in a refugee camp is sleeping facing the west side because the winds from the Atlantic Ocean are believed to be the sacred winds that bring Barara(good luck) for them. The Westerly Wind is coming to them from the Atlantic Ocean across the Western Sahara to the refuge camp. They are going to sleep with the wind and they believe that in time they can go back to their country.

　　　My project is a wind chime. A wind chime is a bell called a Furin in Japan. In Japan the sound a wind chime captures is very sacred. Wind chimes made of bells and drums are believed to be a shield to protect against demons and evils. Furin are small bells made of glass, metal or ceramic and are hung from the eaves of houses, chiefly in summer. A rectangular strip of paper which is called Tanzaku is hung from a clapper and ancient Japanese poems or verses are written on it. When the Tanzaku catches the breeze the bell chimes. In the hot humid Japanese summer the sound of the Furin vibrating in the breeze is for the Japanese a puff of coolness.

　　　When the strong wind blows, Furin's sound is Karan-karan, Chirin-chirin. It has been said that a strong wind was considered to bring evils and a bad epidemic. The chimes will scare away the evil.

　　　I am a mixture of a Saharawi soul and a Japanese soul. I hope my project brings good winds to the Saharawi people. Good air makes Baraka(good luck) and will drive off the evils that have befallen these kind people.

　　　This year it is 37 years since the Saharawi came to the Western Sahara refugee camps. So I decided to visit 37 locations (example: hospitals, schools, shops, houses and taxis etc.). With the Saharawi I made 37 Furin from empty water bottles. The Furin are inscribed with the hopes of the Saharawi. Then they hang the Furin with the hope that happiness will come with a Westerly Wind.I hope Saharawi will find Baraka(good luck) by the wind from the West.Chokran.Sahara Libre!ARTifariti2012

About "Baraka"

The meaning of ''Baraka''is a very traditional arabic concept meaning good luck, as well as blessings, charisma and good fortune.

Los saharauis en los campamentos de refugiados duermen de cara al oeste, se cree que los vientos procedentes del Océano Atlántico son vientos sagrados que les traen la baraka. El viento del oeste llega a ellos desde el Océano Atlántico atravesando el Sahara Occidental hasta los campamentos de refugiados. Duermen arrullados por este viento y sueñan que con el tiempo volveran a su país.

Mi proyecto es una campanilla de viento. Las campanillas de viento se llaman furin en Japón. En mi país, el sonido de las campanillas de viento se considera sagrado. Las campanillas de viento se consideran escudos que protegen de demonios y maldades. Las furin son pequeñas campanas de vidrio, cerámica o metal, que se cuelgan de los aleros de las casas, sobre todo al llegar el verano. Una tira rectangular de papel llamada tanzaku se cuelga debajo escrita con antiguos poemas o versos japoneses. Cuando el tanzaku atrapa la brisa la campanilla suena. En el humedo y caluroso verano japonés el sonido de las furin vibrando en la brisa es para los japoneses un soplo de frescura.

Cuando sopla el viento fuerte, el sonido que hacen las furin es karan-karan, chirin-chirin. Se cree que un viento fuerte puede traer males y epidemias de infortunio. El sonido de las campanillas sirve para ahuyentar cualquier mal.

Yo soy una mezcla de alma japonesa y saharaui. Espero que mi proyecto traiga buenos vientos para el pueblo saharaui. El buen aire trae la buena suerte y ahuyenta el infortunio que aflige a este pueblo amable.

Ahora se cumplen 37 años desde que los saharauis llegaron a los campamentos de refugiados desde el Sáhara Occidental. Es por ello que me decidí a visitar 37 lugares diferentes (como por ejemplo: hospitales, escuelas, tiendas, casas, taxis, etc.) y elaboré con los saharauis 37 furin fabricados de botellas de agua vacías. En cada furin están inscritas las esperanzas de la población saharaui. Luego colge cada furin con la esperanza de que la felicidad vendrá con el viento del oeste.

Espero que la baraka llegara al pueblo saharaui con el viento del oeste.

Hechizo del viento

He creado las campanillas de vientoa partir de botellas de agua vacías y basura. De esta manera propongo transformar la basura en cosas bellas que utilizan el trabajo artesanal de manera fácil y dinámica.
